I’m Just An Old Chunk Of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be A Diamond Some Day) Song Lyrics
I'm just an old chunk of coal But I'm gonna be a diamond some day I'm gonna grow and glow 'til I'm so blue pure perfect I'm gonna put a smile on everybody's face
I'm gonna kneel and pray every day Lest I should become vain along the way
I'm just an old-a chunk of coal now Lord But I'm gonna be a diamond some day
And I'm gonna learn the best words to walk Gonna search and find a better way to walk And I'm gonna spit and polish my old rough edged self Until I get rid of every single flaw
Well, I'm gonna be the world's best friend Gonna go round shaking everybody's hand, yeah
Well, I'm just and old chunk of coal now, Lord But I'm gon' be a diamond some day Yeah, I'm gonna be the cotton pickin' rage of the age Yeah, I'm gonna be a diamond some day
Thank you, eh I got a good buddy of mine, he's from up Loco Hills, New Mexico And um, he uh, he came down one day and we went up to see his Grandfather Up near Oklahoma City, his full blood endin' and he was passin' on, is what happened, and... On the way up there, the way it does in Oklahoma a lot, it'll go to thunder and clouds will come up A little lightnin', everythin' and it won't rain
Anyhow, we got up there to, we got up there to Oklahoma, near Oklahoma City And uh, and uh, what it is, we got a treaty with, uh, Indians, uh The government has a treaty with 'em, they supposed to give 'em the best hospital care there is But, uh, this old gentleman, he wound up in the women's wing of an old folks home Had, uh, looked like he endin' on a nickel, on his, layin' down, had tubes runnin' in his nose Anyhow, he passed on about five minutes and, uh Went on up to Tulsa up there, and played a gig up there and... Got to thank him about it and wrote this tune It's called Oklahoma Wind, we gon' do it for you
